Fab Five – The Big Give Edition

I have come across several great articles over the weekend and wanted to share just a few with you this afternoon.  It seems like bloggers are really pooling their resources this year to lend a hand to charities and other organizations in need.  I think that is great, as the power of collective audiences could make a real difference.

Skimp on the Unimportant So You Can Spend On What Matters.  This may be my favorite post from Simple Mom, and it is so relevant this time of year. To participate in holiday giving we have scaled back a few Christmas gift ideas, because that is what matters to us.  If you sacrifice just a little on extravagance, you can enjoy a rich quality of life by using your money for things that truly matter. 1. Heather, I love that idea. I will have to keep that one in my “great ideas” hat and try it out.

  2. In an effort to save money and still enjoy giving to those in my family and nurturing a generous spirit, my sister and I are giving each other a random act of kindness in honor of one another. So, for example I see some spontaneous moment to help someone somewhere with something on behalf of my sister. On Christmas she’ll open a chocolate truffle and a letter explaining what I did in her honor. I have asked for this gift from my children as well. I love the idea of nurturing their inner generosity. What better gift for a mother?

  3. You should check out Beth from Life on Avenue Z –

She’s organizing a food drive amongst her readers. She started out with a goal of 1 ton of food donated to food banks and reached that goal so quickly (one reader donated 1 ton all by himself) that now she is shooting for 2 tons. It’s a great give.

  4. Wow! Thank you so much for including me in your fab five list- I am so flattered. I have to say that this was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done. Thank you for sharing about it with your readers!
